How Edtech Empowers Teachers & Ensures Their Students’ Success

Education technology continues to play more of an active role in classrooms all around the globe. Besides making lesson plans more interactive for students, it also helps educators improve efficacy and inclusion.

Time Management & Connectivity

The platform Firefly was designed to help teachers and students have access to school information online and outside of the classroom. Firefly aids busy teachers in many ways such as delivering video feedback, facilitating lesson plans, and enabling the exchange of resources. The platform creates a sharing community that connects teachers, students, and parents. Through utilizing tools such as Firefly, teachers have more time to invest in creating lesson plans and building relationships with their students.

Empowers Teachers

According to a survey done by Gallup Education, students who feel that their educators are motivated to help them build their strengths, are 30 times more likely to be engaged in class. Teachers who administer lessons in a fun and entertaining way are showcasing their commitment to making their classes more attractive and motivating to their students.

Through introducing new learning tools into the classroom, students become active information seekers, and thus more involved in the learning process.

Another benefit of technology in the classroom is that it allows teachers to personalize lesson plans like never before. Traditionally, classes have worked through the curriculum at the same pace. However, not every student operates in the same way. New teaching tools allow teachers to follow each student individually with respect to their capacity, background, and engagement with each topic.

Many teachers see not using technology as a disadvantage to their students. At a recent educational conference that took place in Madison, WI, hundreds of educators got together to discuss trends in education.  "We have to change the way that we teach, we have to change the way that we're interacting with students," said Mindy Hintze, an education professional. "In higher education, there's more and more of a focus on digital and online learning, and if we don't meet our students’ needs, they're going to fail."

Increases Student Engagement

Kahoot, one of the top-selling educational apps in the US and the UK, sees some 50 million players each month. Educators can either create their own games and quizzes or choose from the long list of existing games on the platform. Students participate from their own devices and earn points answering questions such as identifies countries, solving math problems, etc. They can also challenge other classes in different locations.

Johan Brand, one of the app’s co-founder, claims their success is due to the fact that technology creates an “inclusive classroom”. “All of a sudden being expressive and loud is seen as positive,” Brand says, adding that the technology brings students together, rather than isolating them.
