Decision Sciences Institute 50th Annual Event
The Decision Sciences Institute is a recognized global professional association that creates, develops, fosters and disseminates knowledge to improve managerial decisions. Each year they host an annual event in which brings thousands of industry professionals together. This year the conference will take place in New Orleans at the end of November.
We have been going to the annual event for three years now and always look forward to engaging with fellow exhibitors, conversing with event-goers, attending workshops, and listening to the keynote speakers.
Professional Development Workshops, Panels, Tutorials, Etc.
Among the many opportunities to discover new research and explore new software and other digital tools, we’re particularly interested in attending a workshop by Texas Christian University’s Travis Tokar. Tokar will be presenting research in Behavioral Research and Experimentation in Operations Management. Other intriguing workshops include learning how to introduce business usages of agent-based simulations, Predictive Analytics and Machine Learning, and Understanding Africa in the Global Supply Chain.
Keynote Speakers
The three keynote speakers that will be speaking this year are representing Citibank, Arizona State University, and Accenture. Collectively they will be addressing concepts in visual data and supply chain financing.
We’re especially looking forward to hearing from Accenture’s Rahul Basole, Managing Director & Global Lead with the company’s Visual Data Science division. Fitting with the consulting and digital services that the company offers, Basole will be offering his insights on how to how to visual complex ecosystems. As a recognized global leader in visual data and strategy, his award-winning work has been published in prominent management science, computing and engineering journals, and conferences.
We’re excited to learn more about how he’s managed to apply interactive and human-centered visual analytic approaches to understanding and managing complex enterprises and ecosystems and bringing effective data-driven visual solutions to the C-suite.
Another appealing element of this keynote is that it will be followed by a relevant workshop where panelists will be assessing how data visualization can be leveraged to:
Confirm and refine assumptions
Inform theoretically constructed models and their flaws
Facilitate dialogues and subsequent data collection
